Cornered By The Truth

Richard stepped directly into Amanda's personal space, his eyes burning with absolute rage as he pointed a commanding finger straight at her face.

Richard: WHAT WERE YOU TRYING TO ERASE?!

Amanda: Richard, please... I was desperate! My personal investments failed last month!

Richard: You tried to delete the security logs from the master control box in the basement, didn't you?!

Amanda: I was going to put the ring back after I secured a bridge loan from the bank!

Richard: You stole over two hundred thousand dollars worth of family heirlooms while my children were sleeping!

Sarah: She also paid the head groundskeeper five thousand dollars last week to turn off the perimeter alarms during the night shift.

Richard: Is that true, Amanda?! You compromised my house security?!

Amanda: I needed access to the outer storage shed! I had private property stored there!

Sarah: Private property? You mean the three antique oil paintings you removed from the dining room wall last month?

Amanda pressed her hands against her face, let out a loud sobbing cry, and began trembling violently.

Amanda: You ruined everything, you stupid little maid! You ruined my whole life!

Sarah: You ruined your own life the moment you put your hands on an innocent child.

Richard: Get up off my piano, Amanda. Get up right now.

Amanda scrambled off the mahogany grand piano, her heels slipping on the rug as she desperately grabbed her spilled purse from the floor.

Richard: Leave the ring. Leave the keys. Leave every single thing that belongs to this estate.

Amanda: Richard, I am your father's widow! You can't throw me out like a street beggar!

Richard: I am calling the city prosecutor and the family court judge in five minutes. If you are still on my property when the police arrive, I will personally press felony burglary charges against you.

Amanda: You wouldn't dare create a public scandal for the family business!

Richard: Try me, Amanda. See how fast I put you behind bars.

Amanda looked at the cold, unforgiving face of her stepson, then at the calm, resolute nanny, and finally at the two young boys holding each other tightly on the rug.

Realizing she had lost every shred of power she held over the family, she turned around and fled through the bright hallway into the sunlit driveway outside.

The heavy oak front doors slammed shut behind her, leaving the grand living room in peaceful, quiet sunshine.
