The Truth Above The Mantel

Richard: The security camera... I forgot I had the new high-definition system installed last week.

Amanda's jaw dropped slightly, her eyes darting nervously up toward the white dome camera mounted directly above the marble mantelpiece.

Amanda: That... that old camera doesn't even work, Richard. You told me the wiring was disconnected months ago.

Richard: The old analog system was disconnected, Amanda. I had the new encrypted cloud network installed while you were in Florida.

Amanda: Cloud network? You didn't mention any new system to me!

Richard: Why would I need to inform you about my house security, Amanda?

Amanda: Because I manage the family estate maintenance budget! You spent corporate money without my authorization!

Richard: It's my money, Amanda. My father left me eighty percent of the primary business shares.

Amanda: But I hold the remaining twenty percent! I have a right to know what cameras are monitoring my movements!

Sarah: It monitors the hallway, the living room, and the front entrance, Mrs. Amanda.

Amanda: Shut up, Sarah! No one asked you!

Richard: Let's go to the main office right now and review the video log from twelve o'clock.

Amanda took a quick step back toward the grand piano, her purse clutched tightly against her chest as cold sweat beaded on her forehead.

Amanda: There's no need to review anything, Richard! I might have bumped Leo's arm accidentally while moving the picture frame!

Richard: Accidental? You just demanded I fire Sarah for physical child abuse!

Amanda: I was emotional! I saw the mark on his wrist and assumed the worst about the maid!

Richard: You lied to my face, Amanda. You tried to frame an innocent woman and ruin her livelihood.

Amanda: I was trying to protect this family from low-class opportunists!

Sarah: The only opportunist here is you, Mrs. Amanda.

Amanda's eyes widened in utter disbelief as she glared at the young nanny.

Amanda: How dare you speak to me like that! You are nothing in this house!

Sarah: I am the person who cares for these children every single day while you try to sell off their late mother's jewelry!

Richard: What did you just say, Sarah?

Sarah: Last Tuesday, while you were on your business trip to Chicago, Mrs. Amanda came into the master bedroom with an estate appraiser.

Amanda: That's a slanderous lie! She's making things up now to save herself!

Sarah: They took your late wife's diamond necklace and the platinum wedding band from the nightstand safe.

Amanda: I had those items taken for professional cleaning and insurance valuation!

Richard: Those items were locked in my private safe, Amanda. How did you get the combination code?

Amanda opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out as her face turned completely pale under her heavy makeup.

Richard stepped forward, his fists clenching at his sides as a wave of explosive fury washed over his face.

Before Amanda could turn to run, Richard grabbed her forcefully by her beige sleeve and slammed her back against the side of the grand piano.

Richard: WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY SON?!
