The morning light poured across the light marble floors of the luxury mansion living room. A grand piano sat near the tall glass windows, its polished mahogany frame reflecting the bright daylight. Sarah sat on a plush rug in her simple maid uniform, holding a small ukulele while six-year-old Leo beat rhythmically on a toy drum.
Sarah: Keep that steady beat going, Leo! You're doing so great today!
Leo: Like this, Sarah? Fast or slow?
Sarah: Just like that, buddy! Sing along with me now!
Toby: Me too! I want to play the shakers!
Sarah laughed softly as four-year-old Toby shook his small plastic shakers, his eyes bright with pure joy. She sang a gentle nursery song, her sweet voice filling the high-ceilinged room. Standing near the arched doorway, Richard leaned against the frame in his navy suit, a rare smile touching his face as he watched his young sons play. Since his wife passed away two years ago, the house had rarely heard music or real laughter. Sarah had changed everything in just three months.
Sarah: One more time, boys! Big finish!
Leo: Yay! We sounded like a real rock band!
Toby: Again! Let's do it again, Sarah!
Sarah: Let's take a quick water break first, sweetie. You played so hard!
Suddenly, the peaceful atmosphere shattered as heavy heels clacked sharply against the marble entryway floor. Amanda burst into the room, her beige designer suit pristine and her diamond rings catching the light. Her face was twisted in intense rage as she glared directly at Sarah, pointing a long manicured fingernail at the maid's face.
Amanda: GET OUT OF THIS HOUSE RIGHT NOW!
Sarah stood up quickly, pulling the little boys behind her apron as her heart pounded against her ribs. Amanda stepped forward aggressively, her voice echoing off the high white walls.
Amanda: You heard me, you useless trash! Pack your bags and get out before I call the police!
Sarah: Mrs. Amanda, please... what did I do wrong?
Amanda: You know exactly what you did! You put your filthy hands on Leo!
Leo: No she didn't! Sarah was singing with us!
Amanda: Shut your mouth, Leo! Grown-ups are talking!
Richard stepped into the center of the room, his voice calm but firm as he looked between his stepmother and the frightened nanny.
Richard: Amanda, calm down right now. What is going on here?
Amanda: Richard, thank God you're home! This girl is dangerous! I caught her physically abusing your son in the hallway five minutes ago!
Sarah: That is a complete lie! I would never hurt Leo!
Amanda: Look at his wrist, Richard! Look at what she did to your poor motherless child!
Richard dropped to one knee on the rug beside his eldest son, his breath catching in his throat as he gently inspected a deep red scratch mark on the boy's small wrist. The air in the room grew instantly cold, leaving a sharp cliffhanger hanging over the entire mansion.
