The Fall Of Chloe

Chloe: Evelyn! What is the meaning of this?!

Evelyn: Chloe, please lowered your voice. I am exhausted.

Chloe: Two movers just showed up at my apartment building with an eviction notice!

Evelyn: The rent on that penthouse was paid through David's business account. The account has been frozen by the court.

Chloe: Well, unfreeze it! You promised me David was going to take care of me!

Chloe stood in the hallway of the hospital's main wing, her high heels clicking loudly against the tile floor as she glared at Evelyn.

Evelyn: David is in a coma, Chloe! He is being moved to a public care ward in an hour!

Chloe: I don't care about his care ward! What about my diamond bracelet?! The jeweler called saying the check bounced!

Evelyn: The check bounced because Maya filed an emergency injunction on my personal accounts!

Chloe: That pathetic little grey-sweatshirt mouse did this?!

Evelyn: Don't you dare call her that! She is carrying David's child!

Chloe: Child?! David told me she couldn't even get pregnant!

Evelyn: He lied to you, Chloe! He lied to both of us just to keep his little game going!

Chloe pulled her designer handbag over her shoulder, her face hardening into cold disgust as she looked at the broken older woman.

Chloe: You promised me a spot in high society, Evelyn. You promised me David's inheritance.

Evelyn: I gave you everything I could! I paid your rent for eight months!

Chloe: You gave me trash! And now you're broke, your son is dying in a county bed, and you're stuck with nothing!

Evelyn: Chloe, wait! Don't leave me here alone!

Chloe: Lose my number, Evelyn. If you ever contact me or my family again, my lawyer will file a harassment suit.

Chloe turned around and strutted down the hallway, her silk scarf fluttering behind her as she disappeared through the sliding glass doors into the parking lot.

Evelyn stood alone near the water cooler, her hands trembling as tears finally spilled over her wrinkled cheeks, washing away the last remnants of her pride.
