Inside the grand ballroom, the celebration was reaching its peak. White champagne fountains bubbled beside a five-tiered wedding cake decorated with silver sugar pearls. Victoria stood in the center of the dance floor, holding a crystal glass high above her head.
Victoria: A toast! To my handsome husband, Marcus, and to our bright, wealthy future together!
Marcus: To my beautiful bride, Victoria! The new mistress of the Vance family estate!
The crowd clapped politely, though several older guests near the back tables continued whispering nervously about the incident earlier.
Guest 3: Has anyone seen Mr. Harrison? The catering staff looks completely frantic near the kitchen doors.
Guest 4: I heard Marcus's corporate black card was just rejected at the front desk for the facility rental fee.
Guest 3: Rejected? He told everyone he bought the entire country club facility last month!
Suddenly, a sharp, loud hum echoed through the walls, followed by a violent metallic click from the electrical room.
The massive crystal chandeliers flickered twice and plunged into total darkness. The upbeat jazz music cut off mid-note with a loud screech from the sound system speakers.
The air conditioning units groaned to a complete halt, leaving the hot afternoon heat to immediately fill the packed ballroom.
Screams of confusion broke out among the guests as dark shadows fell across the floral arrangements and polished marble floors.
Victoria: What is going on with the lights?! Marcus, do something!
Marcus: Is this a joke? Where is the facility engineer?!
Victoria: Manager! Get in here right now! We paid three hundred thousand dollars for this hall!
The heavy double doors at the front of the ballroom swung open, and Mr. Harrison walked in, illuminated only by the daylight streaming through the entrance windows. He held a thick stack of legal notices in his hand.
Harrison: Mr. Vance, Mrs. Vance, I need both of you to clear the main floor immediately.
Marcus: Harrison! What the hell are you doing turning off the power during my wedding toast?!
Harrison: I didn't turn off the power, Mr. Vance. The property owner revoked your event permit two minutes ago.
Victoria: Revoked our permit? Marcus's family owns this building!
Harrison: Marcus's family does own this building, ma'am. Specifically, Mrs. Evelyn Vance owns ninety percent of the master corporation.
Marcus: That old hag doesn't own anything! My father's trust owns this estate!
Harrison: Your father's trust was officially liquidated at three o'clock today under the emergency morality clause, sir.
Marcus froze, his glass slipping from his fingers and shattering into pieces against the dark floor.
Marcus: What did you just say? Emergency morality clause?
Harrison: Under section twelve of the Vance Master Charter, any beneficiary who commits physical assault against a primary trustee forfeits all claims to the family trust, the corporate accounts, and all real estate properties.
Victoria: Physical assault? What physical assault?!
Harrison: The assault you and two hundred guests witnessed right here in this room when Mr. Marcus struck Mrs. Evelyn across the face.
Victoria turned her head slowly, looking at Marcus with wide, terrified eyes as sweat began dripping down her makeup in the stifling heat.
Victoria: Marcus... what is he talking about? You said she had no power over your money!
Marcus: He's lying! She's bluffing! Harrison, I will have you fired by tomorrow morning!
Harrison: You can't fire me, sir. I don't work for you. And as of five minutes ago, you are officially trespassing on commercial property.
Two city police officers in dark blue uniforms stepped through the doors behind Mr. Harrison, their hands resting calmly on their utility belts.
Officer 1: Marcus Vance? Victoria Miller?
Marcus: Officers! Thank God you're here! This manager is harassing my wedding guests and sabotaging our private venue!
Officer 1: We are not here for the manager, sir. We have an active warrant for grand larceny, property fraud, and felony assault.
A heavy, suffocating silence fell over the dark ballroom as two hundred guests watched the police officers walk straight toward the stage.
