Chloe realized she had no leverage, no defense, and no escape from the consequences of her cruel actions. With trembling hands, she grabbed a pen from the table and signed the legal separation and temporary custody transfer papers presented by Arthur.
Arthur: The emergency protection order is signed. She must maintain a distance of at least five hundred feet from Leo and this house until the final court hearing.
David: Your thirty minutes start now, Chloe. Get your personal clothes and get out of my sight.
Chloe walked up the grand staircase with her head hanging low, no longer looking like the arrogant, glamorous woman who had walked into the room an hour earlier. Within fifteen minutes, she came back down carrying a single black suitcase. She did not look at Leo or Evelyn as she walked past them toward the front door.
Chloe: You will regret treating me like this, David...
David: The only thing I regret is not putting those cameras up the day you moved into this house. Goodbye, Chloe.
The heavy front door slammed shut with a sharp click that reverberated through the vast hallway. The dark cloud that had hovered over the household for months seemed to lift in an instant, leaving behind a deep sense of relief and safety.
David walked over to the sofa where Evelyn was holding Leo close. He sat down beside them and wrapped his arms around both of them, pulling them close against his chest. Leo looked up into his father's eyes, his young face free of the fear that had gripped him earlier.
Leo: Is she really gone for good, Daddy?
David: Yes, buddy. She is never coming back here again. You are safe now, I promise you.
Evelyn: You did the right thing, son. You protected your boy when he needed you most.
David: We are going to rebuild our lives together, Leo. Just you, me, and Grandma.
Leo smiled for the first time all day, resting his head softly against his father's shoulder. The scars on his skin would heal with time, but more importantly, his home was finally a place of love, trust, and real safety once again.
