Mark sat motionless in his leather chair as the horrific reality sank deep into his mind. His hand trembled slightly as he pushed back from the table, looking up from the phone screen to stare directly into his wife's frantic eyes.
The guests around the table began whispering in frightened tones, looking back and forth between the frozen husband and his furious wife. Sarah tried to force a small, loving laugh, but her voice cracked completely under the heavy strain of the room.
Sarah: Mark, darling, you cannot possibly believe a silly video brought to you by a bitter house cleaner, can you?
Mark: My eyes are not lying to me, Sarah. That is clearly you standing at our kitchen island pouring that powder.
Sarah: It is a complete trick! People make fake videos on the internet every single day just to ruin good lives!
Elena: It is not fake, Mark. I placed that small camera near the pantry because I noticed strange things last week.
Sarah: Shut your mouth, you little thief! You have been jealous of my family since the day you started working here!
Elena stood tall in her neat uniform, facing down the angry rich woman without taking a single step backward. She pulled a small clear plastic bag from her apron pocket, holding up the empty paper packet she had found inside the kitchen trash bin.
The guests gasped loudly as they recognized the clear chemical label printed on the side of the small paper packet. It was a strong toxic substance used for pest control, something that should never be anywhere near human food or drink.
Mark felt a cold chill run all down his spine as he remembered feeling unusually tired and sick over the past few weeks. He had visited his local doctor twice for strange stomach pains, but the tests had come back completely normal and unclear.
Now the awful puzzle was assembling itself right in front of his eyes in the middle of his own bright dining room. Sarah had been slowly slipping tiny amounts of toxic chemicals into his evening drinks, waiting for the perfect moment to finish the job.
Mark: You have been giving me small doses for months, haven't you, Sarah? That is why I was sick last week!
Sarah: No, Mark! You are letting stress make you crazy! I love you more than anyone else in this world!
Elena: She does not love you, sir. She was planning to take your massive inheritance and your entire company for herself.
Sarah: I will sue you into total bankruptcy for saying these terrible lies about me in my own mansion!
Mark: Nobody is leaving this room until the local police arrive and take complete control of this awful scene.
Mark slowly reached down toward his pocket to grab his own mobile phone to call the authorities right away. But before his fingers could reach his coat, Sarah suddenly lunged forward across the messy table to grab the white paper packet from Elena's hands.
