Victoria gasped loudly, taking a hasty step back toward the office door as if she could somehow run away from the legal storm heading straight for her. She realized her comfortable lifestyle, her access to the family trust fund, and her high status in town were slipping away in a matter of seconds. She dropped down onto her knees beside Mark's desk, trying to reach for his hand with a frantic expression of desperate repentance.
Victoria: Mark, please do not do this to me! Think about our reputation in the community!
Mark: Do not touch me! You cared about your social status while you were hurting my defenseless child!
Victoria: I will go to therapy! I will get help, I promise! Just don't call the police on me!
Mark: You should have thought about the consequences before you put your hands on my son.
Within twenty minutes, two uniform police officers arrived at the front entrance of the Vance estate, their boots clicking firmly on the marble floor where the gala guests were beginning to gather in confusion. Mark walked out into the main hall holding the flash drive containing the security footage in his hand. Victoria followed behind him, her eyes red from crying, still begging for mercy, but no one in the house offered her a single drop of sympathy.
The guests watched in stunned silence as the lead officer reviewed the clear video file on a tablet device right there near the entrance. The officer's face turned stern as he handed the flash drive to his partner and pulled out a pair of heavy metal handcuffs from his utility belt. He turned toward Victoria, who stood shaking near the bottom of the grand staircase.
Police Officer: Victoria Vance, you are under arrest for domestic child abuse and endangerment. Hands behind your back.
Victoria: You can't arrest me! Do you know who my husband is? He owns this entire estate!
Mark: Her husband is the one pressing charges, Officer. Take her out of my home immediately.
The metal cuffs clicked firmly around Victoria's wrists, making her scream out in anger and embarrassment as the officers led her out through the front doors in front of fifty wealthy party guests. Her fake mask of sophistication was completely gone, replaced by the ugly reality of her cruel actions finally coming back to haunt her. The heavy front doors shut behind her, cutting off the sound of her frantic shouting forever.
Mark turned back to face his young son, who was standing beside Evelyn near the sofa. He walked over slowly and dropped down to both knees, reaching out to hug Leo tightly against his chest, shedding tears of regret for not noticing the pain his son had endured for so long behind his back.
