The Truth on the Screen

My Stepmother Hid What She Did Until Dad Checked Security

The private home office was quiet except for the hum of the computer monitor resting on the large wooden desk. Mark sat in the leather chair, his fingers flying across the keyboard as he accessed the local security server logs from the past month. Victoria stood near the closed office door, her hands clutched tightly together as cold sweat dripped down her neck. Evelyn held Leo close on the velvet sofa, wrapping a warm blanket over the boy's shoulders as they waited for the video file to load up.

Mark: Let us see what really happened last Tuesday when I was in Chicago for the board meeting.

Victoria: Mark, please... the system might be glitching, you know how technology can distort real actions!

Mark: Be quiet, Victoria. I am watching the video right now.

The screen flickered to life, showing clear high-definition footage of the second-floor hallway outside Leo's bedroom. The timestamp in the corner read three o'clock in the afternoon from seven days ago. On the screen, young Leo could be seen carrying a tray with a small glass of orange juice toward his room. Victoria suddenly stepped out of her bedroom, her expression cold and mean, snatching the tray roughly from his tiny hands before pushing him hard against the wall.

The video audio was crystal clear, capturing the harsh smack as her hand struck the side of the boy's face, followed by his quiet, pitiful crying. On the monitor, Victoria leaned down close to his ear, her finger shaking aggressively in his face as she threatened him before walking away with the juice tray. Mark stared at the monitor in absolute disbelief, his jaw clenching so hard that the muscle in his cheek twitched with dangerous rage.

Mark: You hit him... You actually laid your hands on my young son in his own home!

Victoria: Mark, I was just trying to discipline him! He was being clumsy and ruining the carpets!

Mark: Discipline? He is seven years old! You bruised him because of a spilled drink!

He skipped forward to the current day's footage recorded just one hour before the gala guests were set to arrive at the estate. The camera clearly captured Victoria grabbing Leo roughly by his arm, her long sharp designer ring digging into his skin until he pulled back in pain, creating the exact cut mark they had seen earlier in the hallway. There was no longer any room for denial or fake excuses; the evidence was right there in crisp digital detail.

Evelyn: God have mercy... look at how he was shaking on the tape.

Leo: I told you, Dad... I didn't mean to make her angry.

Mark: You did nothing wrong, son. Never apologize for her cruelty. This ends tonight.

Mark pulled out his cell phone from his inner tuxedo pocket with cold, deliberate speed. He didn't waste time arguing with his wife anymore; the time for soft talk had completely passed. He dialed his family lawyer first, putting the call on speaker so everyone in the quiet room could hear the conversation clearly.

Lawyer: Hello, Mark. Is everything alright with the gala event tonight?

Mark: Arthur, I need you to draft emergency divorce papers immediately, and call the police department right now. I have video proof of child abuse inside my house.
