The Secret In The Library

Evelyn: How could he do this to us? His own family?

Clara: He's been losing money in offshore day trading for over a year, Mom.

Evelyn: How do you know that?

Clara: I found the margin call notices inside the estate safe three weeks ago.

Evelyn: Why didn't you come to me immediately?

Clara: I wanted to be one hundred percent sure before I accused your son of stealing.

Evelyn: He isn't my son anymore if this is true.

The heavy oak doors of the dining hall opened, and Richard Sterling stepped into the room, holding a thick leather briefcase.

Richard: What on earth happened in here? The front gate guards said Jason just sped off like a madman.

Evelyn: Richard, look at your daughter's face.

Richard: Clara! My God, who did this to you?!

Clara: Jason threw a paperweight at me in the library, Dad.

Richard: He hit you?! In this house?!

Evelyn: He cut her forehead and smashed the dining porcelain because she caught him stealing her trust fund.

Richard set his briefcase down on an unbroken corner of the table, his face turning an icy shade of red.

Richard: Stealing her trust fund? What are you talking about?

Clara: Look at these documents, Dad. I managed to pull them off his desk before he attacked me.

Clara handed a stack of printed bank statements to her father. Richard pulled his reading glasses from his coat pocket and began scanning the lines.

Richard: These are corporate wire transfers... from the main estate reserve account.

Clara: Signed with a forged copy of your executive seal.

Richard: Two point two million dollars... sent to a private brokerage firm in Switzerland?

Evelyn: He took over two million dollars already?!

Clara: That was just last month. He had another transfer scheduled for twelve o'clock today for three million more.

Richard: This is grand larceny. This is corporate embezzlement.

Evelyn: I slapped him, Richard. I slapped him right across his arrogant face and told him to get out.

Richard: You did the right thing, Evelyn. He's lucky I wasn't in the room when it happened.

Clara: The police officers are outside in the driveway right now, Dad. They need a statement from you as head of the family business.

Richard: I'll give them more than a statement. I'm handing over every financial record we have in the vault.

Evelyn: What about his position at the company?

Richard: Terminated. Effective ten minutes ago.

Clara: What if he tries to flee the country, Dad? He has a private airfield membership in Teterboro.

Richard: I'm calling the board of directors right now to freeze his corporate credit cards and passport clearance. He won't make it past the airport security gate.
