The Aftermath And Justice

Why A Groom Slapped His Bride At The Altar Today

The projection screen showed clear proof that could not be denied or explained away by smart lawyers. Vanessa stood frozen under the bright lights of the stage, her face pale as snow as her own mother covered her mouth in absolute disgust and shame. The wealthy guests who had come to celebrate a high-society union were now looking at the bride with complete anger and contempt. The carefully built fake identity Vanessa had maintained for two years was totally destroyed in a matter of seconds.

Vanessa looked around the room, trying to find a single sympathetic face among her friends and family, but everyone turned their gaze away from her. Her father lowered his hand, his angry posture completely vanishing as he looked at his daughter with deep disappointment and defeat. He stepped back off the altar without saying another word, leaving Vanessa standing completely alone in her expensive, ruined dress. The pastor slowly closed his heavy book, stepping away from the couple to signify that no ceremony would be taking place today.

Mark turned his back on Vanessa without giving her another second of his time or energy. He picked up Lily into his arms, holding her close against his chest so she could feel his strong, steady heartbeat. The little girl wrapped her arms around his neck, finally feeling safe and secure after days of living in constant fear of the cruel woman who had tried to enter her life. Mark walked back down the long aisle toward the exit, his head held high with the knowledge that he had done the right thing for his family.

As he reached the back doors of the grand hall, two uniformed security officers who had been hired for the event stepped forward to intercept Vanessa, who was trying to slip out through a side entrance. Mark stopped briefly to speak with the lead officer, giving a full statement about the physical child abuse that had taken place inside the private dressing room. He made it crystal clear that he would be pressing full legal charges and filing for a restraining order immediately to ensure Vanessa could never come near his child again.

Security Officer: We have the video evidence saved, sir. We will hold her right here until the local police arrive to take the full report.

Mark: Thank you. Make sure she doesn't leave this building until they arrive.

Vanessa: Mark, please! Think about our future! It was just stress from the wedding! I can change, I swear!

Mark did not turn around to look at her tears, knowing they were just as fake as her love had been. He pushed open the heavy front doors of the estate, stepping out into the bright, warm afternoon sunshine that bathed the peaceful venue grounds. The air felt clean and fresh in his lungs, clearing away the dark cloud of deceit that had hung over his life for so long. He looked down at his daughter, who was looking up at him with a soft, beautiful smile returning to her face.
