Uncovering The Forgery

Eleanor: You had no legal right to enter my daughter's private suite!

Mark: This estate belongs to the Sterling Trust, Eleanor. And as the sole surviving heir, I own every square inch of this roof.

Chloe: Mark, please! It was my mother's idea! She made me sign those papers!

Eleanor: Chloe, hold your tongue!

Chloe: I was scared, Mark! She said if we didn't control the firm, your military career would take you away and leave us with nothing!

Mark: So you forged my signature on a twelve-million-dollar asset transfer while I was deployed overseas serving my country?

Chloe: We were going to merge the estates after the wedding anyway! It wouldn't have mattered!

Mark: It matters because it's a federal crime, Chloe. It's grand felony fraud and forgery.

A tall man in a dark grey suit stepped out of the front double doors holding a thick yellow manila folder.

Steven: Captain Sterling. We verified the signatures on the original 2024 proxy filings.

Mark: And?

Steven: The notary stamp belonged to Eleanor Sterling's personal secretary. The ink chemistry doesn't match your deployment records from Ramstein Air Base.

Mark: Thank you, Steven. Hand those over to the county detective who just pulled up behind you.

Eleanor turned her head toward the driveway as a marked police cruiser came to a stop behind her black sedan.

Two uniformed officers stepped out, walking up the stone steps toward the porch with hand-held tablet devices.

Officer Davis: Eleanor Sterling? Chloe Sterling?

Eleanor: Do you know who I am, Officer?! I sit on the board of the police foundation!

Officer Davis: We have a warrant issued by District Judge Miller for grand larceny, forgery, and unlawful imprisonment regarding a foreign national's travel documents.

Chloe: Unlawful imprisonment?! I didn't lock anyone up!

Officer Davis: Destroying a foreign national's passport to prevent their departure falls under federal interference statutes, ma'am.

Chloe: Mother! Do something! Tell them to stop!

Eleanor: Keep your hands off my daughter! We are calling our Senior Legal Counsel right now!

Officer Davis: You can call whoever you like from the county booking facility, ma'am. Turn around and put your hands behind your back.

The officers stepped forward, clicking metal handcuffs around Chloe's wrists first while she sobbed hysterically, her expensive wedding jumpsuit getting creased against the police cruiser hood.

Chloe: Mark! Please! Tell them you forgive me! I love you, Mark!

Mark: You don't love me, Chloe. You loved my father's money and the power it gave your mother.

Eleanor: You will pay for this, Mark Sterling! My legal team will destroy you in court!

Mark: Save your legal budget for your defense, Eleanor. You're going to need every single penny.
